TV Theme Song Poll Results - Round 1
|
|
The results of the first bracket of our TV Theme Song
Showdown are in! There were more than 2,500 votes and the winner lapped the
field. The general theme for this week’s poll was the hour-long action show.
The one exception to the format was M*A*S*H, which was a half hour comedy set
during the Korean War.

The competing theme songs included
(clockwise from top):
The A-Team, M*A*S*H, Miami Vice, Knight Rider, and The Fall Guy.

The last place finisher was
Fall Guy with slightly less than 8% of the vote. I realize that Fall Guy
isn’t one of the most popular shows from the 80s, but the theme song had two
things going for it:
1)
The star of the show, Lee Majors, actually sang the song.
2)
The song was actually quite catchy.
The fact that Fall Guy finished so low makes me wonder if
people were voting for their favorite show or favorite song.
Judge for yourself and listen here.

17% |
| The aforementioned
M*A*S*H finished fourth but with a much more respectable 17% of the vote.
The M*A*S*H theme song’s name is “Suicide is Painless”, which actually
describes the downer tone of the song fairly well. Actually if one were to
watch the opening credits by itself they wouldn’t have any idea that this show
was a comedy. If you are in the mood to be depressed then

If you had asked me to handicap this contest I would have
picked the
Miami Vice theme as the favorite because the song actually sat atop the Top
40 chart in 1985 and lots of people purchased the Miami Vice soundtrack because
of that song. Not only that, but
readers of TV Guide voted it as the number one TV theme song ever. This led
me to wonder, do people still pay for TV Guide? If so, why?
Anyway, the visitors to 80sTees.com did not agree. Miami
Vice theme song pulled in a paltry 20% of the vote. If you need a fix of the
song have a

22.5% |
| Edging out Miami Vice for second place was the
Knight Rider theme song with 22.5% of the votes. Knight Rider and the
number one song actually share a couple of things in common. They both aired on
NBC and both of their theme songs features spoken words explaining the plot
overtop of the music. The Knight Rider theme song makes an excellent ring tone
as well!

The number one theme song was so far ahead it was as if it
had a plan, and this song loves it when a plan comes together.
The A-Team won with a staggering 32.5% of the votes. Do you know how you
know this is a good song? Play it to someone who has never heard it and they
will be humming along before the song ends.
Watch the opening credits and hum along here. |
