In 1989 I won a VHS copy of The Princess Bride at a bowling league end of season banquet. My name was selected for a prize and as I walked up to receive it I was excited to see my loot. After opening it I was sure that I accidentally received one of the prizes meant for girls.
I would eventually discover that it wasn't just a kissing movie when I stayed home from school sick for an entire week. After a few days of watching re-runs of Gilligan's Island and I Dream of Jeannie and complaining to my mother that I was bored, she suggested I watch "that movie you won".
It didn't take long to realize that I was basically the boy being played by Fred Savage, and the movie became an instant favorite.
